The mandate of Dr. Imre Kovács as CEO of Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt. was extended for another three year term. Mr. Kovács, who also holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors at the company, has been leading the railway undertaking providing nationwide coverage for ten years without interruption.
Mr. Imre Kovács had transferred from GYSEV to MÁV at the end of 2002, where, in 2003, he set up and managed the company's Freight Branch. He steered the business towards profitability, and later, in 2006, as the CEO of its legal successor, MÁV Cargo Zrt., prepared the company for privatization. The company was sold in 2008, within the framework of the highest revenue generating transaction ever in the history of European rail privatization. Later on, the company – renamed as Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt. – was modernized and reorganized by the new owner under the leadership of Dr. Imre Kovács. During the economic crisis, the company was temporarily making a loss, but as a result of the introduction of new consignment handling procedures and IT-developments, as well as the creation of the company's own locomotive fleet and the optimization of its operation, it was already turning a profit again in 2012. Alongside the direction of Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt., Dr. Imre Kovács – in cooperation with Dr. Clemens Först, the CFO of Rail Cargo Hungaria –also manages Rail Cargo Carrier Kft., strengthening the market presence of Rail Cargo Group in Southeast Europe.
