2014 Hungary's leading rail freight carrier, Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt. signed a cooperation agreement with the Faculty of Applied Economics of the University of Debrecen. The agreement was signed by Dr. Imre Kovács, Chairman of the Board of Directors, CEO representing the rail company and Dr. Károly Pető acting dean representing the University. According to the agreement, a special educational, research and consultation unit was established next to the Faculty called Rail Cargo Management Off-site Faculty. Further objectives of the cooperation are graduate and postgraduate training, providing human resources and infrastructure for research, as well as enhancing the existing relationship with the productive sector.
Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt puts special emphasis on the topic of talent management, and will therefore be keen on the students of University of Debrecen majoring in logistics, as well as on how rail freight and within it the activities of the railway company are presented. Within the framework of the agreement, starting from 2014 autumn semester an independent eligible course will be launched with the involvement of lecturers from the University of Debrecen and Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt experts.
The subject program is up-to-date and presents the situation and developmental possibilities of rail freight objectively, drawing students' attention to the topic of railway transport. It also provides a preview for topics which are of great importance for the railway company. This cooperation is part of the corporate human policy strategy, with the task of ensuring appropriate professionals. The company's plans involve hiring the best students for their successfully operating internship program.
University of Debrecen is one of the country's oldest continuously operating higher educational institutions. Starting from this semester our experts will collaborate in person, giving lectures and consultations for those taking part in the course."
Chairman of the Board of Directors finally added that the company's internship program has been motivating graduates to familiarize themselves with the realisable opportunities in rail freight.
This agreement is exemplary and unique in Hungary, since there is currently no similar cooperation within the topic of rail freight. In the end, he added that Rail Cargo Hungaria will look for opportunities to cooperate with higher education institutions in order to support the development of careers of as many students as possible.
